Aicha, Germany, March 5th, 2001 World's First Cross-Platform Database Components for Kylix and Delphi Announced FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE dataWeb (www.dataweb.de) today announced version 3.0 of its local database components TurboDB equally available for Linux and Windows. TurboDB components 3.0 will enable Delphi developers to migrate their BDE-based applications to Linux with a minimum of source code changes. Because Kylix lacks the support for the Borland Database Engine available in Delphi, developers will have to change their database engine. TurboDB Components 3.0 offer the same interfaces and power as the BDE components but without the installation and configuration effort. TurboDB Components 3.0 are 100% compatible across the platforms regarding source code and database file formats. TurboDB components are based on the TurboDB engine which has been used by ten thousands of database developers mainly in Germany over the past years. TurboDB is the core component of all dataWeb development tools like TDB for DOS, Visual Data Publisher and dataWeb Builder. TurboDB is not only a fast and reliable relational database engine, it also provides for additional features like encryption, full-text indexing and special data types for linking database tables. "TurboDB is a proven industry-strength database engine that will make your Kylix applications work." says Peter Pohmann, President and CEO of dataWeb, "Thanks to Borland's Kylix, the first RAD tool for Linux, and TurboDB components it has never been so easy to port real-life Windows applications to Linux." TurboDB Components 3.0 contains four VCL/CLX data access components modeled after the original BDE components from Borland. TTdbTable and TTdbQuery are TDataSet descendants that implement all properties and methods of TTable and TQuery, so they can be used with all data-aware components on the market and with about 95% of existing source code for the BDE components. TTdbBatchMove like TBatchMove offers flexible data import and export routines and TTdbConnection replaces TDabase. TurboDB Components offer multi-user access, all the normal data types including 32 bit integers, memos and blobs, encryption of table files, full-text indexing and searching, special fields to implement 1-to-many and many-to-many relations and an enumeration data type. The table files have an optimized proprietary file format to support the non-standard features. TurboDB Components 3.0 support Delphi 4 and 5, C++ Builder 4 and 5 and Kylix 1. They are available as Standard Edition and Professional Edition, the latter including SQL support. Live demos of the Kylix version have been shown in the dataWeb booth located in the Borland Partner Pavillion at LinuxWorld in New York. General availability is planned for April 1st 2001. The same day a free evaluation version will be ready for download at the TurboDB Web site. dataWeb is a leading provider of tools and components for database developers in Germany and world wide.
