The color of a shape is determined through its fill style. You can either assign another fill style to the shape (either directly or via its template) or you can modify the existing fill style in the Design Editor. The fill style on its turn refers to one or two color styles, which finally define the actual color.
When you want to set the shape color via the Design Editor, you may either modify its fill style or its color style.
Assigning a Color to the Shape's Fill Style in the Design Editor
| 1. | Select the shape in the diagram and check the name of its fill style in the property window. |
| 2. | Open the Design Editor (View > Show Design Editor) and activate the tab Fill Styles. |
| 3. | Select the shape's fill style, click on its BaseColorStyle property and select a color style from the drop down list. |

| • | The colors you see in the drop-down list are the color styles of the design. The next procedure shows how to modify those. |
| • | Modifications to the fill style will influence all templates and shapes referencing it. If you want another color for only one template, create a new fill style and assign it to the template. |
Modifying Colors in the Design Editor
| 1. | Select the shape in the diagram and check the name of its fill style in the property window. |
| 2. | Open the Design Editor (View > Show Design Editor) and activate the tab Color Styles. |
| 3. | Select the shape's color style, click on its Color property and modify the color to your likings. (In order to find out which color style is used by the shape, you can check in the Fill Styles tab.) |

| • | Modifying the color of a color style influences all fill styles and other settings that refer to this color style. You can use this feature for instance to replace all occurrences of a given shade of blue by a different shade of blue. Other places to modify a color are the fill style, the template and the shape itself. |
